mama on a date (how we met)

Target scarf; belt and skirt; Everlane tee  and bracelet (similar); Maybelline ColorShow Fierce N' Tangy nails.

Style note: I did end up belting the scarf with a gold belt and threw on my burgundy booties after the photo shoot, check out my instagram (meagan_rigney) for final look!

This past weekend, waaaay back in the dark ages (1999) I met my husband.
I didn't know of course, where we would be now. We met in college (Keene State!), at an event called the pumpkin lobotomy. It's okay to roll your eyes at that one.

You see, our college had a HUGE festival called pumpkin fest every year. Thousands of pumpkins lined main street and every Friday before everyone gathered on the quad to gossip, check out boys carve pumpkins.

Did I ever mention I was a sorority girl? Best time ever. Oh, college, I have the best memories of you. Frozen fingers scooping out ice cold pumpkin flesh. Crisp air and apple cider. Gathering with your friends and giggling over the cute boys and wondering what you would wear for the party later. Oh, the clothes! Black party pants and a tight top, sans jacket despite the cold. White eyeliner. Flipped out hair. Lots of glitter spray. We were hot to trot, I tell ya.
I digress.

My honey was a friend of a friend. Our meeting was brief.

Hi.

Hello.

What are you doing later?

I even have a picture of us on that first day. I look all of 12 in it.
We didn't date then. It took a year of being friends, dating others to know that we should be together.
And I knew.
Once he was mine I would never let him go.
Despite my parents asking, "Who is this guy?"
His nickname at KSC was Meatball. Seriously. I called hime that for a year straight. Thank God no more.
Now he's Christian.
And he made me and my parents in awe of him and his dedication. He's a hottie pilot now. In a flight suit and everything. Like in Top Gun. I know. Swoon!

Every year at this time, I think of that weekend and smile. We laugh and say how much fun we had at Keene. I'm so glad I went there, and met him (and some of my best friends in the whole world.)
You see, my babies and the life I have now was started that very day, in a pumpkin strewn lawn in the middle of nowhere.
